October 8, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The former head coach of Rockford’s former professional basketball team has joined its baseball team.

The Rockford RiverHawks announced Monday that it has hired former Rockford Lightning coach Chris Daleo as the team’s director of operations. Daleo coached the Continental Basketball Association franchise for four seasons, from the 2002-03 campaign until it folded in 2006. Daleo, a Rockford resident, also was a Lightning assistant for two years.

Josh Olerud, the team’s general manager since 2006, will add the title of vice-president of sales.

“Chris has been well-known in the community and has the ability to help us in many ways working with Josh to form a union of both strong administration as well as strong sales and marketing,” RiverHawks owner and director of baseball operations Dave Ciarrachi said. “We feel that as a team we can achieve even greater heights than in the past. We feel Chris will give us that person, working with Josh, who will make us the best team in independent baseball.”

Daleo was named CBA Coach of the Year in 2002-03, was an 11-time Coach of the Month selection and was a four-time All-Star coach. After he left the Lightning, Daleo coached the CBA’s Minot Skyrockets each of the last two seasons. Daleo also is the American consultant/scout to the Busan KTF Magic Wings, a member of the 10-team professional Korean Basketball League. Daleo has also coached in the college ranks, with a stay at Barat College as head coach in 1999-2002.

“I wanted to stay in Rockford,” Daleo said. “I wanted to try something new and it was really a decision because of my children, is really what it came down to, because I find great joy in watching my children compete athletically. My daughter plays girls’ softball for Triple Play and my son plays for Boys and Girls Club and also for Wasco. Between the two of them, that’s about 150 baseball/softball games that I want to be around for.”

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season in 2009. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season in May and host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
