Former RiverHawks win pennants on the farm
« Back

September 15, 2008 - Two former Rockford RiverHawks won pennants in affiliated ball over the weekend.

Pitcher Justin Dowdy, in Class AAA in the Oakland organization, was part of Sacramento's Pacific Coast League championship. Catcher Christian Rosa, in short-season Class A in the St. Louis organization, was on Batavia's roster for the New York-Penn League title.

In the PCL, Sacramento won, 4-2, Sunday at Oklahoma to beat the RedHawks, three games to one, for the title. Dowdy made one appearance during the playoffs. He gave up four runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief in Game 2 of the finals.

Dowdy, who was twice signed off the Rockford roster by major-league teams, was promoted from Double-A Midland just before the end of the Pacific Coast League regular season. He was a Frontier League All-Star with the RiverHawks in 2003-04.

The Cardinals signed Rosa after he played just three games with the RiverHawks in June. Rosa hit .286 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 32 games with Batavia, but he did appear in either of the two playoff rounds.
