Anthonsen, Bauer topple records
« Back

September 5, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks’ record book needed a heavy revamp at the close of the 2008 season.

Ten single-season team records fell and 12 career marks were either tied or broken. Joe Anthonsen and Garrett Bauer, the only two members of the team who have been with the team since the start of the 2006 season, prompted of the record-book revision.

Anthonsen had a league-best 135 hits, two more than teammate Jason James. Each passed the old mark of 123 set by Olmo Rosario in 2005. Anthonsen played in 95 of 96 games, the most contests a RiverHawk has played in a single season. Anthonsen also set records for most runs and at-bats in a season.

Over the course of the year, Anthonsen also moved up the career charts. He finished the season with 309 career hits two behind Ben Fjelland for first place on the RiverHawks’ all-time hits list. He became the team’s career leader in games, at-bats, runs and errors.

Bauer, who turned 27 on Thursday and has reached the Frontier League’s age limit, departs as the team’s all-time strikeout king, with 317. He is tied with Tanner Watson for the all-time RiverHawks wins lead, at 23.

Bauer struck out 151, five short of the league record of 156 set by the RiverHawks’ Jason Shelley in 2002. Bauer became just the third pitched in league history to reach the 150-strikeout mark.

Bauer set new team single-season records for starts, innings, home runs allowed, and walks. He set new career marks for starts, innings, hits, runs, earned runs and home runs allowed. Bauer also tied the record for most career losses.
