August 23, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Jason James and Joe Anthonsen both tied the Rockford RiverHawks’ single-season hits record on Saturday. Their teammates contributed plenty themselves.

The RiverHawks pounded out 16 hits and beat the Chillicothe Paints, 12-1, for their fourth win in a row. The standing room-only crowd of 3,688 at Road Ranger Stadium is the team’s record 10th sellout of the season.

Rockford moved a game behind Traverse City for the final Frontier League playoff spot. The Beach Bums lost, 3-1, to Southern Illinois.

James, who was 2-for-5 with two RBI, and Anthonsen, who was 3-for-4 with two RBI, both tied the team’s single-season hits record of 123, set in 2005 by Olmo Rosario. Rosario now plays Class AA ball for the San Francisco Giants.

Rockford scored six runs in the second inning and four in the third. In the second, Matt Mazurek hit a sacrifice fly. With two outs, Anthonsen tripled in two runs and James doubled in a run. Brad Dutton and Tony Gonzalez each singled in a run.

James was retired on a RBI groundout in the third, which ended a streak of 10 hits in his last 10 at-bats and a streak of 13 straight plate appearances in which he had reached base. Both streaks reached back to Wednesday.

Kyle Dempsey (3-1) scattered a run on five hits and struck out four without a walk for the win. Brian Gartley (3-10) gave up eight runs on nine hits and didn’t survive the third inning.

The series finale is at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. It’s Total Living Network All Faiths Night, featuring a postgame concert and CD release party by Christian singer Brooke Barrettsmith. Mincemoyer Jewelers sponsors RiverHawks Back To School Kits for the first 500 kids.
