August 3, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks performed what has been a rare feat in order to extend their winning streak to three games.
Rockford scored seven unanswered runs – six from the seventh inning on – to beat the Midwest Sliders, 7-2, on Sunday in front of a near-sellout crowd of 3,028 at Road Ranger Stadium. Rockford’s win was its seventh when behind after six innings.
Robbie Knapp was 3-for-5 and singled in the go-ahead run during Rockford’s five-run eighth inning. Jason James hit a fifth-inning home run into the right-field beer garden and extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
Midwest reliever James Albury (1-2) entered in the seventh inning with a 2-1 lead and gave up six runs in two innings. Knapp led off the seventh with a double and scored on Tony Gonzalez’ infield hit. In the eighth, Knapp’s RBI single broke a 2-2 tie. Brad Dutton doubled home three and scored on Mike Scripture’s two-out RBI single.
Kyffin Marcum (5-1) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to get the win.
Sam Deluca hit a two-run homer for the Sliders in the third inning.
The RiverHawks can sweep the three-game series with a win in Monday’s 7:05 p.m. finale.
