July 20, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Garrett Bauer struck out a career-high 12 to tie the all-time RiverHawks strikeout record as Rockford beat River City, 7-3, on Sunday.

Catcher Robert Sabates backed up his batterymate with a home run and a 2-for-3, three-RBI night in front of a standing room-only crowd of 4,960 at Road Ranger Stadium.

Bauer (6-3) gave up two runs on seven hits and walked two over eight innings. He had a shutout until Brad Hough hit a two-run homer into the right-field beer garden in the eighth inning.

Bauer, a third-year RiverHawk and a two-time Frontier League All-Star, struck out Chris Raniere for his 238th career strikeout with Rockford. He tied Jason Shelley for the all-time RiverHawks strikeout lead. With his 19th win with the RiverHawks, Bauer passed Josh Tomsu for sole possession of second place on the all-time victory list. Tanner Watson won 23 times in a Rockford uniform in 2005-07.

Bauer reached double digits in strikeouts for the first time since Aug. 12, 2006, and the second time in his career. Five of his strikeouts came after the fifth inning.

Rockford never trailed. Sabates hit a two-out, two-run homer to left field off Jake Laber in the first inning and a two-out RBI single to right field in the seventh inning.

Laber (0-2) gave up three runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Rockford scored four insurance runs in the eighth on three consecutive two-out hits – a two-run triple by Joe Anthonsen and RBI doubles by Carlos Rivera and Jason James.

The RiverHawks open a three-game series at Gateway at 7:05 p.m. Monday.
