July 11, 2008 - CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Chillicothe remains the toughest visit in the Frontier League for the Rockford RiverHawks.

The Paints scored five times in the fourth inning to end all-star Garrett Bauer’s six-start unbeaten streak and defeat the RiverHawks, 7-3, on Friday.

The RiverHawks are 2-12 all-time at Chillicothe and have never won a series at VA Memorial Stadium. Their second victory there – last June 24, ended a five-year dry spell at Chillicothe.

The Paints sent 10 to the plate in the fourth inning and took a 6-2 lead. With one out, Travis Storrer singled home the tying and go-ahead runs. With two outs, Rob Vernon tripled home a run. Bubba Garcia hit a RBI double and scored on Jeff Vincent’s RBI single.

Bauer (5-3) lost for the first time since June 5. He had won his previous four decisions. Bauer left after he walked the first two batters in the seventh inning. The all-star gave up a season-worst seven runs on seven hits. He walked five, matching his season high.

Bauer, who with 18 career wins is tied for second place on the RiverHawks’ all-time victory list, has never beaten the Paints. River City is the only other Frontier League team that Bauer has not beaten in three seasons with Rockford.

Chillicothe starter Andrew McCormick (2-5) gave up one earned run and scattered three hits over seven innings for the win. He snapped a four-start winless streak and earned his first victory since June 16.

Jason James homered for Rockford in the first inning. After the Paints tied the score in the bottom of the first, Joe Anthonsen put Rockford back in front, 2-1, with a RBI double in the third inning. Anthonsen extended his hitting streak to a career-best 13 games.

Robert Sabates hit a two-out RBI pinch-single in the ninth for the RiverHawks.

Rockford has lost three in a row.

The RiverHawks continue the series at Chillicothe at 5:35 p.m. CDT Saturday.

The RiverHawks, on a nine-game trip, do not play a home game until July 18, when River City visits at 7:05 p.m. Culver’s and 104.9 – the X sponsor RiverHawks Baseball Card Night #3, an eight-card subset featuring current RiverHawks, a former RiverHawks great and a WXRX DJ.
