'Hawks, Freedom suspended because of rain

July 9, 2008 - FLORENCE, Kent. – Wednesday morning’s game between the Rockford RiverHawks and the Florence Freedom has been suspended because of rain with the teams tied at 1-1 in the top of the third inning. The teams will resume the game at 6:05 p.m. Thursday, with the regularly scheduled game, shortened to seven innings, to follow.

Both teams scored in the first inning. Brad Dutton doubled for the RiverHawks and scored on a balk. In the bottom of the first, Angel Molina singled in the tying run.

The start of the game was delayed 30 minutes because of rain and stopped for another 36 minutes in the third before the umpires officially suspended play. When play resumes on Thursday, Joe Anthonsen is at the plate with a 1-0 count, nobody on base and one out in the inning.

The RiverHawks, on a nine-game trip, do not play a home game until July 18, when River City visits at 7:05 p.m. Culver’s and 104.9 – the X sponsor RiverHawks Baseball Card Night #3, an eight-card subset featuring current RiverHawks, a former RiverHawks great and a WXRX DJ. FatWallet.com and WIFR sponsor the Friday Night Fireworks Series following the game.
