July 8, 2008 - FLORENCE, Kent. – Brad Dutton matched the Frontier League longball leader, homer by homer, and the Rockford RiverHawks kept pace with the Florence Freedom in a game of home-run derby on Tuesday.

Dutton hit two home runs, including the go-ahead shot in the sixth inning, to tie the team record as the RiverHawks beat the Freedom, 15-9. Each team hit four home runs. Brandon Cohen and newly signed Tony Gonzalez also homered for the RiverHawks.

Kelly Hunt hit two leadoff home runs, his Frontier League-leading 13th and 14th of the season, for Florence. Tim Grogan and Nick Salotti also hit solo home runs for the Freedom.

Cohen homered to tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning. The RiverHawks took the lead with a five-run third inning. Joe Anthonsen extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a RBI double and scored on Jason James’ RBI double. Later in the inning, Gonzalez, a former San Diego farmhand in his first game with Rockford, hit a two-run homer. Dutton hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 8-2.

The Freedom rallied in the middle innings on the four bases-empty homers and Billy Mottram’s two-run double. Mottram came around to score on two wild pitches that tied the game.

Dutton, who had the first multi-homer game of his three-year career, is the first RiverHawk to homer twice in a game since Matt Hagen did so on July 30, 2007 at Washington. Both of Dutton’s home runs – hit in consecutive at-bats – came off Stephen Shao (1-3), who lost in relief. Dutton’s solo shot over the fence in left in the sixth inning, his third home run of the year, broke an 8-8 tie. Rockford’s four home runs Tuesday matched its season high.

The RiverHawks broke the game open with six runs in the final three innings.

Rockford rookie Kyffin Marcum (2-0) won in relief.
