RiverHawks win a wild one
« Back

June 20, 2008 - EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Five Evansville errors and four Rockford miscues led to a wild night in Evansville, but the RiverHawks scored just enough for a 14-11 win.

Matt Enderle (1-1) earned the win after relieving starter James Cramphin in the fifth. Dustin Renfrow (0-1) took the loss.

The RiverHawks struck first on Jason James’ first-inning sacrifice fly. The Otters took the lead with four runs in the third courtesy of two Rockford errors. Mike Pennino’s two-run double provided the inning’s big blow.

Rockford evened the score at four in the fourth. Jono Brooks lashed a two-run double and scored on an error by Evansville first baseman Christian Reyes.

Evansville reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning, as Justin Randall’s RBI ground-out made the score 5-4 Otters.

The lead see-sawed back to the RiverHawks in the fifth. Scott Talbert blasted a two-out, three-run homer to score Chris Raber and Brad Dutton for a 7-5 lead.

The Otters drew closer on Tycen Povey’s run-scoring double in the fifth, cutting the lead to 7-6.

The RiverHawks widened the gap with insurance tallies in the sixth and seventh. In the sixth, Lucas Hulsey scored on Matt Mazurek’s fielder’s choice grounder, and Joe Anthonsen scored when Reyes bobbled Greg Burrow’s grounder. Rockford added five more in the seventh, thanks in part to a three-base throwing error by Randall on a Hulsey sacrifice bunt attempt. Later, James added his fifth home run of the year, a two-run shot to increase the lead to 14-6.

Evansville scored five times in the eighth with Roy Bringelson on the hill. Chris Crescenzi’s three-run homer highlighted the rally.

The RiverHawks return home Saturday, June 28 for the start of a three-game series against Gateway and a six-game homestand. The first 1000 fans into the June 28 contest receive a Billy Williams bobblehead, sponsored by BOB FM and WIFR.
