June 16, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Chris Raber hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning and the Rockford RiverHawks survived a three-run Gateway rally in the ninth to beat the Grizzlies, 7-5, on Monday at Road Ranger Stadium.
The RiverHawks won their third game in a row. Twice during the streak, Raber has driven in the winner. He hit a walkoff single in the ninth inning on Saturday in a win over Kalamazoo.
On Monday, Raber hit a two-run homer into the right-field beer garden off starter Matt Falk (1-4). The RiverHawks, who had just six hits but walked 10 times, scored twice more in the inning. Brad Dutton stole home on a delayed double steal and Matt Borman walked with the bases loaded. Rockford scored two insurance runs in the seventh.
Rockford starter Garrett Bauer (2-2) struck out eight and pitched into the seventh to get the win. He left after giving up three straight two-out hits, including Mike Breyman’s RBI single. Peden Rucker entered with runners on the corners and a three-run lead. Rucker, a rookie from South Carolina-Aiken in his professional debut, qualified for the save despite giving up three runs in the ninth inning on four straight two-out hits.
