June 15, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Matt Borman’s leadoff home run in the eighth inning capped a four-homer night for the Rockford RiverHawks and a rally from a four-run deficit.
Jason James, Brad Dutton and Lucas Hulsey also hit home runs as the RiverHawks came from behind to beat Kalamazoo, 9-8, in front of a near-sellout crowd of 2,622 on Sunday at Road Ranger Stadium.
Simon Williams hit his sixth home run of the season, his fourth in the series, for Kalamazoo. Kyle Kmiecik also homered for the Kings, who dropped two of three to the RiverHawks.
Williams hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Kmiecik homered with a man aboard in the second and singled in a run in the third as the Kings took a 6-2 lead.
The RiverHawks rallied for two runs in the seventh to tie the game at 8-8. Jono Brooks hit a sacrifice fly and rookie Lucas Hulsey hit his first professional home run, a shot that cleared the second row of signs in left field. In the eighth, Borman homered to the right-field beer garden off reliever Kevin Davis (1-3).
The Rockford bullpen struck out nine hitters and scattered a hit over the final 4 2/3 innings. George Rasiarmos (1-0) earned his first professional decision. Shawn Balteff struck out two and pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save.
The RiverHawks host Gateway at 7:05 p.m. Monday.
