June 7, 2008 - KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The RiverHawks turned their five-game losing streak into a two-game winning streak with a doubleheader sweep of the Kalamazoo Kings.

Rockford took game one, 7-6, and grabbed a 8-2 victory in game two as the RiverHawks improved to 8-9.

The RiverHawks led all the way in game one. Joe Anthonsen led off the game with a home run to right off Jeff Long (1-1), his first home run of the season.

Anthonsen’s two-run double in the second extended the RiverHawks’ lead to 4-1.

Chris Schutt (2-1) silenced the Kings’ offense, allowing only two runs on five hits through his first six innings. The RiverHawks added two insurance runs in the sixth on back-to-back two-out run-scoring singles by Jono Brooks and Anthonsen to take a 7-2 lead.

Chad Rothford’s two-out grand slam off Roy Bringelson in the seventh brought the Kings within 7-6, but Omar Padilla fouled out to end the game. Bringelson earned his second save.

Game two featured two dominating starting pitchers; neither allowed an earned run. The RiverHawks scored in the first when Anthonsen led off with a single, took third on a throwing error by pitcher Trent Lare (2-2) and scored on Jason James’ single.

Rockford tacked on insurance runs in the fifth and sixth. An error and two walks loaded the bases with two out in the fifth, and Brett Thomas drove in a run with a base hit.

In the sixth, Matt Borman scored when an intentional ball to Anthonsen sailed wide for a wild pitch.

Brad Dutton's two-run single in the seventh highlighted a five-run rally to put the game out of reach.

Jim Paduch (2-1) pitched a seven-inning complete game to earn the victory.
