June 4, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks announced Wednesday the activation of third baseman Rob Recuenco and the retirement of outfielder Ryan Kowalski.

The RiverHawks acquired Recuenco on April 4 from the Edmonton Cracker-Cats in exchange for a player to be named later. Recuenco, 25, hit .269 with two home runs and 35 RBI in 219 at-bats in the independent Northern League last season, his first as a professional. He has 1-Year status in the Frontier League. The activation of Recuenco, a Canadian, was delayed because of visa problems.

Kowalski, Rockford’s starting center fielder, and since Friday, the team’s leadoff hitter, was hitting .167 with no home runs and four RBI.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 16th season. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Most games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM) and the internet. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
