ThunderBolts zap RiverHawks, 12-4

June 2, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Windy City broke open a tight game with a six-run sixth inning Monday and beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 12-4, at Road Ranger Stadium.

Windy City first baseman Phil Hawke was 1-for-3 and drove in four runs. He broke a 2-2 tie with a sixth-inning sacrifice fly and helped turn the game into a blowout with a two-run, two-out homer in the ninth inning.

Ben Barrone added a three-run homer in the ninth for the ThunderBolts.

The ThunderBolts never trailed. They scored twice in the first inning. The RiverHawks rallied to tie the game in the third inning on Jason James’ RBI single and Joe Anthonsen’s RBI groundout, but fell behind for good when Windy City scored three times in the sixth.

Desmond Jones (1-0), the second of six Windy City pitchers, got the win. Rockford starter Jim Paduch (1-1) gave up five runs on five hits and five walks.

The RiverHawks host Traverse City at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. Players and coaches offer instruction to youths 12 and under in the first Saturn of Rockford Youth Clinic of the season.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 16th season.
