May 24, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Corey Stang’s first hit of the year kept the Rockford RiverHawks perfect for the season.

Stang hit a two-out, two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning as the RiverHawks rallied to beat Windy City, 10-9, Saturday at Road Ranger Stadium. Jono Brooks also homered for the RiverHawks, in front of a near-sellout crowd of 3,172.

Rockford ended a six-game losing streak against the ThunderBolts dating back to last August that included a three-game sweep in the playoffs last September. The RiverHawks remained perfect at 4-0. Defending Frontier League champion Windy City is still winless at 0-4.

The game had five ties or lead changes. Brooks’ first home run of the year, a two-run shot to left, gave Rockford a 2-1 lead. The RiverHawks tacked on three runs in the second inning, but Windy City rallied from a four-run deficit. The ThunderBolts scored three times in the fifth inning to take the lead and Phil Hawke’s RBI double in the sixth made it 9-7.

The RiverHawks rallied for three runs in the eighth off Anthony Rebyanski (0-1). Rebyanski walked a batter, hit another and gave up three steals in the inning. Jason James cut the deficit to one with a sacrifice fly. Stang ended an 0-for-10 skid with the go-ahead homer.

Drew Himes (1-0) pitched two hitless innings of relief for the win. Mike Marksbury pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second save in as many nights.

The homestand ends at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. Kids run the bases on Family Night. Dr Pepper and WREX sponsor Autograph Book Night for kids 12 and under. Players will sign autographs after the game.
