RiverHawks tie, lose in exhibition doubleheader

May 8, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks opened their exhibition schedule with a tie and a loss in a doubleheader against Joliet on Thursday.

The teams tied, 3-3, in the opener. In the nightcap, the Northern League’s Jackhammers scored three times in the sixth inning to break a tie and went on to a 7-3 win.

All the scoring in the first game came on three-run homers. Matt Borman homered for the RiverHawks in the third inning. Joliet's Dorian Rojas tied the game with a shot to left in the seventh inning.

In the nightcap, Joliet scored three times in the top of the second inning, but Rockford rallied in the bottom of the inning on a Steve Pickerell RBI double and Charles Bolden’s two-run single to right.

Rockford committed three errors, two in the sixth inning. Pinch-hitter Steve Garrabrants singled in the go-ahead run off reliever Roy Bringleson, who took the loss. Two unearned runs followed.

The RiverHawks were hitless from the second inning until the seventh. Lance Odom pitched a perfect inning of relief for the win.

The exhibition schedule continues at 1 p.m. Friday with a game at Gary. The RiverHawks have a doubleheader scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Windy City and a single game against Schaumburg scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday.

Opening Night is at 7:05 p.m. May 21, when the RiverHawks host River City. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season this summer.
