May 7, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks opened their 2008 spring training on Tuesday.

In addition to an exhibition schedule of nine games against Chicago-area independent teams, the team will hold an exclusive party for its season-ticket holders from 5-6 p.m. Saturday, May 17.

The exhibition schedule starts with a noon doubleheader against the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League Thursday at Road Ranger Stadium.

All season-ticket holders are invited to the annual party, which includes a catered dinner and takes place during the exhibition finale, a doubleheader against defending Frontier League champion Windy City.

“We owe our success to our fans,” RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said. “Our preseason party is a great chance for new season-ticket holders to become acquainted with the stadium and an opportunity for our longtime fans to catch up with our players, coaches and staff.”

Admission to all exhibition games is free and all seating during spring training is general admission. Workouts are also open to the public.

Opening Night is at 7:05 p.m. May 21, when the RiverHawks host River City. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season this summer. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Most games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM) and the internet.
