Rosario delivers winning pinch-hit
« Back

April 22, 2008 - NORWICH, Conn. -Former Rockford RiverHawk Olmo Rosario delivered in a dramatic pinch-hitting role Monday.

Rosario hit a walkoff single as the Norwich Navigators beat the Bowie Baysox, 1-0 in the Double-A Eastern League.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Rosario came off the bench and singled to left-center field off Rommie Lewis to beat the Baltimore farm team.

While it's a rare role for him, Rosario is an excellent pinch-hitter. He's 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBI as a pinch-hitter in his career. The homer came on Aug. 5, 2004, in the RiverHawks' 22-10 win at Richmond, still the highest-scoring offensive night in team history.

This year, Rosario is hitting .350 with a home run and five RBI in 16 games for the Defenders, the Class AA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

Rosario spent 2004-05 with the RiverHawks. He was the Frontier League finals MVP in 2004 and an all-star in 2005, when he finished second in the batting race. Last year, he was the Can-Am League Player of the Year after he led that independent league in batting while with Nashua.
