RiverHawks sign former high draft pick

April 7, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks announced Monday that they have signed shortstop/outfielder Mike Jones, a former Cincinnati farmhand.

Jones, 21, was picked by the Reds as a shortstop in the eighth round of the 2005 draft. The following year, he was switched to the outfield.

Last season with the Billings Mustangs of the rookie-level Pioneer League, Jones hit .256 with four home runs and 28 RBI, all career highs, in 208 at-bats. Jones, a career .219 hitter, has Rookie-2 status in the Frontier League.

Opening Night is at 7:05 p.m. May 21, when the RiverHawks host River City at Road Ranger Stadium. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season this summer.
