RiverHawks promote Mackinder

January 14, 2008 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks announced today that they have promoted Marshall Mackinder to assistant general manager for marketing and promotions.

Mackinder, 24, had been the team’s director of marketing. He has been with the organization since 2006.

“Marshall deserves his promotion and recognition as our new assistant general manager of marketing and promotions,” general manager Josh Olerud said. “He has been a very important part of our franchise over the past two years and will better this organization for hopefully many more.”

Mackinder will oversee and implement the team’s marketing budget and sales, facilitates the team’s promotion calendar and on-field promotions and hires the team’s game-day promotional staff. His new position combines his role with that of former sales director Dan Macdonald, who resigned earlier this month.

“After growing up in baseball, playing and working in it, I welcome the next endeavor,” Mackinder said.

The native of Oak Park, Mich., spent five seasons with the Detroit Tigers as a crowd manager. He also worked behind the scenes at Super Bowl XL in 2006 in Detroit. Mackinder came to the RiverHawks from the Plymouth Whalers, a member of the major-junior Ontario Hockey League. He was the Whalers’ director of group sales.

Mackinder graduated from Niagara University in 2005 with a degree in communications with a sports management concentration.

Mackinder lives in Rockford with his wife, Ann, and 18-month old son, Iain, the team’s director of infant/toddler activities.

Todd Fulk, the team’s assistant general manager since November 2003, is now the team’s assistant GM for baseball operations.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season in 2008. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Most games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM) and the internet.
