January 2, 2008 - Former Rockford RiverHawk Bo Flowers was in the Rose Bowl Tuesday.

Flowers, a safety with the University of Illinois football team, played but did not record a tackle in the Fighting Illini's 49-17 loss to Southern California.

Flowers appeared in 12 games this fall and recorded five tackles.

Flowers spent five seasons in professional baseball after earning all-state honors in each sport in his final year of high school.

The Detroit Tigers drafted him in the fifth round in 2002, then dealt him to the Chicago Cubs in the Kyle Farnsworth trade prior to the 2005 season. He split 2006 in the Frontier League between Windy City and Rockford. He hit .271 with four home runs and 31 RBI in 64 games for the RiverHawks.
