Former RiverHawk headed to Rose Bowl
« Back

December 3, 2007 - Former Rockford RiverHawk Bo Flowers is headed to the Rose Bowl.

Flowers and the University of Illinois football team were invited Sunday to play in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. Illinois, ranked 13th by the Associated Press, will play No. 6 Southern California.

The Fighting Illini, who will make their fifth Rose Bowl appearance, are playing a bowl game for the first time in six years. They have not been to Pasadena since 1984.

Flowers, a freshman safety, played in all 12 games this season and recorded five tackles.

Flowers was a two-sport all-stater in high school. The Detroit Tigers took him in the fifth round of the 2002 draft and sent him to the Chicago Cubs in the Kyle Farnsworth trade prior to the 2005 season. Flowers split 2006 between Windy City and Rockford.
