November 28, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks will open the season at home for the first time in six years.

On Wednesday, the RiverHawks released their 96-game 2008 schedule, which starts with a five-game homestand at Road Ranger Stadium. The RiverHawks host River City in the season opener at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 21. The Rascals play the ‘Hawks the following two nights, then Rockford hosts defending Frontier League champion Windy City on May 24-25.

The RiverHawks have opened the season at home only once before, in 2002, their first year in Rockford.

Standard game times remain 7:05 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 6:05 p.m. Sunday. The RiverHawks have scheduled one day game. They host the ThunderBolts in a 12:05 p.m. matinee on July 2.

Single-game ticket prices remain $15 for premium box seats, $12 for home plate, $10 for infield, $8 for outfield and $5 for grandstand. All seating is reserved. Fans can guarantee seating for high-demand nights such as Opening Night and premium giveaways only by purchasing full or partial season-ticket plans, which start at just $75.

The RiverHawks have six homestands of six games each. They will have two trips of nine games each. In addition, after the home finale against Evansville, scheduled for Aug. 28, the team spends the last six games of the season on the road.

For the second year in a row, the RiverHawks will play slightly more home than road games. Rockford will play 51 at home and 45 on the road. The Slippery Rock Sliders have been renamed the Midwest Sliders and will play as a travelling team in 2008.

“We feel fortunate to pick up an additional Friday-Saturday-Sunday homestand, which is typically our biggest draw days,” general manager Josh Olerud said. “With possible expansion the next two years, this allows the Sliders to keep their franchise intact where they will eventually have a new home in the near future.”

In addition, the league has realigned from three divisions back to two. Rockford, which won two of the last three West Division titles before moving to the Central, returns to the West with Windy City. Evansville, Gateway, River City and Southern Illinois remain in the West Division. Four of the last five pennants have been won by teams now in the FL West. The FL East includes Chillicothe, Florence, Kalamazoo, Traverse City, Washington and travelling Sliders.

In an unbalanced schedule, the RiverHawks play each intradivision opponent 12 times and each interdivision opponent six times.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season in 2008. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Most games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM) and the internet.
