August 27, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Justin Holmes hit a grand slam and Brad Vericker was a single short of the cycle on Monday night as Traverse City beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 11-5, at Road Ranger Stadium.

The Beach Bums led from the first inning on. With one out, Vericker tripled in a run and scored on a groundout.

Traverse City sent 10 to the plate and scored six times in the third inning to drive Rockford starter Brady Salter (6-5) from the mound. Vericker doubled in a run and Holmes hit a two-out grand slam to left to give the Bums an 8-0 lead. Vericker homered in the fourth. He finished 4-for-6 with a home run, two doubles, a triple and three RBI.

Matt Hagen hit his 12th home run of the year, a two-run fly just inside the foul pole in left, in the fourth inning.

Tom Thornton (2-2) struck out six without a walk over 5 1/3 innings to get the win.

Before the game, the RiverHawks put pitcher Shaun Parker on the disabled list with a ruptured bursa sac on his pitching elbow.

The RiverHawks play at 6:05 p.m. CDT at Traverse City each of the next two nights.
