Miners end Rockford’s win streak, 5-4

August 24, 2007 - MARION, Ill. – Bryant Perdomo and Joey Metropoulos each hit home runs for Southern Illinois on Friday as the Miners beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 5-4.

The RiverHawks’ three-game winning streak ended. In addition, they fell farther behind in the wild-card race and were mathematically eliminated from the division title. Kalamazoo beat Florence, 12-4, to drop Rockford two games out of the last playoff spot. Frontier League Central leader Windy City beat Evansville, 7-1, in the opener of a doubleheader to eliminate the RiverHawks from contention for the division title.

Rockford starter Shaun Parker gave up a home run to Perdomo in the second inning and two-run homer to Metropoulos in the fourth. Metropoulos fly beyond the fence in left field broke a 3-3 tie.

Parker (6-2) lost for the first time since June 6.

The RiverHawks got a run back in the seventh inning. Matt Hagen doubled in a run with two outs, but was picked off second base by Brian Blomquist. Blomquist (4-8) gave up four runs, three earned, on six hits over eight innings.

The series finale is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The RiverHawks return to Road Ranger Stadium at 6:05 p.m. Sunday to play Traverse City. On Feldco Family Night, kids get to run the bases after the game.
