Watson wins sixth straight, 3-1

August 14, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Rockford ace Tanner Watson won his sixth in a row on Tuesday as the RiverHawks dispatched Evansville, 3-1, at Road Ranger Stadium.

The RiverHawks rallied for two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Watson outdueled Evansville starter Jimmy Conroy. Watson (9-1) scattered a run on four hits over eight innings and earned his sixth consecutive win.

The Otters got to Watson in the second inning on consecutive two-out singles by Justin Carr, Tony Roth and Tom Pennino. Watson retired the following 16 Otters in order. Watson struck out 10, the second time he’s done that this season, and walked just one.

Watson is the fifth RiverHawk with a nine-win season.

All Rockford’s runs came on two-out hits. Brad Dutton tied the game with a double in the fifth inning. With two outs in the seventh, Justus Kimbrough reached on an error and Dutton singled to right to send Kimbrough to third base. Joe Anthonsen followed with a single to right-center to drive home Kimbrough. Dutton scored because of an error on the play.

Conroy (8-7) gave up seven hits and walked four in the loss.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. The Saturn of Rockford Youth Clinic takes place at 5 p.m. The first 1,000 through the gate receive RiverHawks travel mugs, sponsored by Bryden Motors and WREX.
