August 4, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Former Rockford RiverHawk Bryan Vickers beat the team that let him go in last November’s Frontier League expansion draft.

Vickers hit a tie-breaking home run in the sixth inning as the Slippery Rock Sliders beat the RiverHawks, 6-3, Saturday at Road Ranger Stadium.

Slippery Rock took two of three from the RiverHawks. Rockford stayed two games behind Kalamazoo in the wild-card race. The Kings lost, 6-5, to Evansville on Saturday.

The RiverHawks had 14 hits, but hit into three double plays and left nine men on base.

Matt Sauls led off the first inning with a double and Roberto Valiente followed with a single, but Jason James hit into a run-scoring double play. In the second inning, Brad Dutton singled in a run and Matt Hagen followed a double-play groundout with a RBI double to give the RiverHawks a 3-1 lead.

Ryley Westman tied the game with a two-out, two-run double to left field in the fourth inning. In the sixth, Vickers gave the Sliders a 4-3 lead with his fourth home run, a high fly off former teammate Dave Dowling well above and just inside the foul pole in left field.

Dowling (3-5) gave up two unearned runs in the seventh as the Sliders padded their lead in a hitless inning.

Kory Bucklew (2-2) gave up 11 hits, but got the win. Closer Greg Lasinski relieved him in the sixth inning with the tying and go-ahead runs aboard and two outs. Lasinski got out of what became a bases-loaded jam and went on to pitch 3 1/3 innings for his ninth save.

The RiverHawks and Kings meet at 6:05 p.m. Sunday in the opener of a four-game series. The Zooperstars, including Clammy Sosa, Harry Canary and Shark McGwire, visit the park and will entertain youngsters with their interactive antics. In addition, Feldco and B103 sponsor Family Night. Kids are invited to run the bases following the game.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 15th season.
