RiverHawks win sixth straight, 8-3

August 1, 2007 - WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Rockford RiverHawks completed their first series sweep at Washington in more than five years with an 8-3 win over the Wild Things on Wednesday.

Rockford scored six unearned runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie. The RiverHawks, who outscored the Wild Things 25-10 in the series, had never before swept a three-game set at Washington. Rockford swept a two-game series, June 16-17, 2002, at Falconi Field.

The RiverHawks have won six in a row and are 13-5 since the Frontier League All-Star break.

Alhaji Turay hit a solo home run, his fourth of the year and second in as many nights, to break a scoreless tie in the second inning. Washington rallied on Mario Garza’s two-run single in the fourth.

Washington committed four errors and only one of the seven runs off starter Tom Cochran (6-5) was earned. In the fifth, Jono Brooks grounded a ball between the legs of third baseman Kyle Padgett and later scored on a Matt Sauls sacrifice fly to tie the score at 2-2. In the sixth, Matt Hagen reached on an error, then stole second and third. Following a Turay walk, Brad Dutton singled to left to drive home Hagen and put Rockford in front to stay. Later in the inning, Sauls singled home two.

Garrett Bauer won for the third time in his last four starts. Bauer (5-3) combined with three relievers on a six-hitter.

The RiverHawks are back at Road Ranger Stadium at 7:05 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday to face the Slippery Rock Sliders once again. Miller Lite and 104.9 – the X sponsor Dollar Beer Night. In addition, the U.S. Army and Marines sponsor Military Appreciation Night, when the RiverHawks will play in camo uniforms.
