RiverHawks to host premier youth teams

July 24, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks will host some of the world’s top youth amateur teams this week.

Teams from Rockford, Crystal Lake and Japan will play a pair of exhibition games Thursday at Road Ranger Stadium before the RiverHawks’ game. All three teams are preparing for the Continental Amateur Baseball Association World Series, scheduled for July 27-August 5 in Crystal Lake.

RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said the team is starting a relationship with CABA that may result in the organization locating tournament games at Road Ranger Stadium in future years.

“We’re trying to become one of the sites, because they have teams from 9 years old all the way up to 15,” Olerud said.

CABA’s 15-year-old teams will participate in Thursday’s exhibitions. At 9 a.m., Crystal Lake CABA plays Japan. At noon, Rockford Boys of Summer will play Japan.

The teams will then head to Anderson Japanese Gardens for a social gathering scheduled for 3 p.m. and to Coco Key Indoor Water Park at 4 p.m. They will be honored at Road Ranger Stadium before the RiverHawks’ 7:05 p.m. game against Washington.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 15th season. Advertising and ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Some games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM) and the internet. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
