June 28, 2007 - KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Roberto Valiente had RBI singles in the first and ninth, as Rockford edged Kalamazoo, 6-4, on Thursday night in Michigan. It marked the eighth straight victory for the surging ‘Hawks, who are over .500 for the first time this year.

Valiente extended his hitting streak to 11-games with an RBI single in the first inning off Kalamazoo starter Sam Mann. Brandon Cohen (4) launched a home run to open the second inning, putting Rockford on top, 2-0.

Jeff Grose lined an RBI single in the third inning to put Kalamzoo on the board. In the fourth, Joe Anthonsen hit a two-run single making it a 4-1 Rockford game.

Rockford starter Brady Salter cruised into the sixth inning before serving up a pair of home runs. Robert Moron (2) opened the inning with a solo blast. Trevor Eastman’s (1) two-run home run tied the game at four and chased Salter from the game. Salter had a no-decision, allowing four runs on ten hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Mann went just four innings and was handed a no-decision. The score remained tied at four going into the ninth inning.

Brad Dutton opened the frame with a triple that was badly misplayed by Kings outfielder Grose. Valiente connected on an RBI single scoring Dutton and promptly stole second and then third base. He would score on a Matt Hagen single. Hagen had five hits in as many at bats. Mark Kelly (1-1) allowed both runs in the ninth and was handed the loss in relief.

Roy Bringelson and Jason Baca combined for 1 2/3 innings of no-run ball out of the Rockford bullpen. Baca (3-0) earned the win, fanning one along the way.

Mike Marksbury (11) worked a perfect ninth for the save. It marked his 23rd career save as a RiverHawk, setting the team record for career saves previously held by Josh Latimer.

The series continues tomorrow night as Rockford looks for a four-game sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT.
