Streaking ‘Hawks rally, beat Freedom, 6-5

June 22, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks’ winning streak is at a season-best three games after a 6-5 win over Florence on Friday.

Rockford rallied on Roberto Valiente’s RBI single in the seventh inning and the bullpen pitched four scoreless innings, in front of 2,223 at Road Ranger Stadium.

Will Henderson hit RBI doubles in each of his first two at-bats to give the RiverHawks a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Florence rallied for two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. Ryan Basham hit a two-run homer to left to put Florence in front.

The RiverHawks came from behind with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Jason Baca pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for the win. Baca (1-0) got a double-play groundout to get the ‘Hawks out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the sixth inning. Dave Dowling pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Former RiverHawk Jason Shelley, the 2003 Baseball America Indy League Player of the Year and Frontier League strikeout and ERA record holder, will be honored. The first 1,000 through the gate will receive Shelley bobblehead dolls, sponsored by LaSalle Bank and B-103.
