Paints blast Hawks, 9-7

June 15, 2007 - CHILLICOTHE, Ohio. – After Rockford showcased its best pitching performance of the year on Thursday, Chillicothe launched four homeruns on Friday to take the rubber-match of the three-game series in Ohio.

In a game which featured four lead changes, Chillicothe out slugged the RiverHawks to a 9-7 win at V.A. Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

The ‘Hawks jumped on the board first on a Sean McFadden two-run double with two outs in the second inning.

The score remained that way until the Chillicothe fourth. With one out, Paul Rutgers ripped a double off RiverHawks spot-starter Drew Himes. Travis Garcia (4) followed with a towering two-run homerun to leftfield. Jon Poterson made it back-to-back jacks launching his second homerun of the year, and putting Chillicothe on top 3-2.

The Paints added three runs in the fifth. With two aborad, Rutgers lifted a three-run homerun to left making it a 6-2 Paints lead. Himes finished the fifth and received a no-decision in his first career start. He allowed six runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Paints starter Bryan Johnson issued two walks and hit a batter to open the sixth. Ryan Flanigan came on in relief and allowed an RBI single to Matt Hagen. Brandon Cohen (2) then launched a grand slam over the fence in right giving Rockford a 7-6 lead.

The Paints scored an unearned run off Ryan Brnardic in the seventh to tie the game.

With Roy Bringelson on the mound and a runner on base, Jeff Parrish hit his first homerun of the year, completing the scoring with the Paints leading 9-7.

Tyler Meigs (1-0) worked two innings for the win. Daryl Arreola (4) worked the ninth for the save.

Rockford travels to Florence, Kentucky for the first of a three-game set starting Saturday night. First pitch is at 5:05 p.m. The RiverHawks return to Road Ranger Stadium on Tuesday, June, 19 for the start of a six-game homestand.
