In the first game, Matt Hagen hit a leadoff home run in the fifth inning to tie the game. An inning later, Turay hit a RBI double to left off reliever Scott Taylor and scored on James’ double. Taylor (1-1), who entering following four no-hit innings from spot starter Brock Hunton, took the loss.

Salter (1-1), a native of nearby Oregon, did not give up an earned run and scattered two hits over six innings for his first professional win. Marksbury stranded the tying runs on base in the seventh and earned his third save.

In the nightcap, Windy City starter Shawn Phillips struck out eight and scattered a run on two hits over five innings. Phillips (2-1) retired the first 12 in order before Turay and James opened the fifth inning with back-to-back doubles.
