June 3, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – John Gragg’s solid start wasn’t the only opportunity wasted by the Rockford RiverHawks on Sunday. The RiverHawks left 12 on base – nine in scoring position – and were shut out, 2-0, by the Kalamazoo Kings.

Gragg (0-2) gave up just two runs on four hits over seven-plus innings. Jeff Grose doubled in a run in the fifth inning and Joe Ramos drove Gragg from the game with a RBI triple in the eighth.

The RiverHawks got men into scoring position in each of the last five innings. Kalamazoo starter Dan Fyvie (2-1) left with runners at the corners and two outs in the sixth. Mark Kelly entered and struck out Will Henderson to end the threat.

In the ninth inning, Brad Dutton led off with a walk, Roberto Valiente singled and both advanced on a sacrifice bunt. John Sullivan struck out Brandon Cohen and Joey Huskins to end the game and earn his first save.

Valiente was 2-for-4 with a double. He extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Rockford manager J.D. Arndt was ejected by plate umpire Mike Noojin in the eighth inning.

Prior to the game, catcher Justus Kimbrough (strained left oblique) was placed on the disabled list.
