May 25, 2007 - CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks didn’t score after the first inning on Friday, but it turned out to be just enough.

Rockford sent 11 to the plate and scored five times in the first. The RiverHawks held on to beat Windy City, 5-3.

The RiverHawks ended a season-opening, two-game losing streak, in front of a sellout crowd of 3,778 for their home opener at Road Ranger Stadium.

Rockford starter Dave Dowling survived a two-run Windy City outburst in the top of the first. Mike Coles and Phil Hawke each singled in runs. Dowling, who made his second career start, struck out five and scattered five hits over five innings for the win.

The Rockford offense loaded the bases three times in the bottom of the first. Joe Anthonsen led off with an infield hit and scored on a force play. Jason James singled home the tying run and Victor Roldan’s sacrifice fly drove in the go-ahead run. Justus Kimbrough’s two-out, two-run single was the big blow of the inning.

Rockford pitching combined for 11 strikeouts. Mike Marksbury struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning and earned his first save.

The first homestand of the season ends at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Early arrivals get RiverHawks magnet schedules, courtesy of WTVO and Dr Pepper.
