May 23, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The home of Rockford RiverHawks baseball is also one of the newest outdoor music venues in Rockford.

The Rockford RiverHawks announced on Tuesday that Midwest cover band Mike and Joe will be performing on the field at Road Ranger Stadium, following Saturday night’s game with Windy City. Mike and Joe formed in 1997 at Indiana University, where Joe Valentino and Mike Notaro met as undergrads. For the last seven years, bassist Marc Blackwell and drummer Aaron Streich have teamed up with the duo, playing popular tunes from the last 20 years.

“Ever since the club contacted us about the opportunity to play [at Road Ranger Stadium] we’ve been looking forward to it,” lead singer Joe Valentino said. “Everyone has been working hard to make it happen. It will be nice to be out in front of some new people in Rockford.”

The concert will be the first live show at the two-year-old ballpark this summer, but the RiverHawks want it to become a consistent event.

“We’re happy to have Mike and Joe performing at the park,” RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said. “Road Ranger Stadium offers more than just baseball and this is our first step in providing outdoor entertainment away from the diamond. Fans can treat this as a small taste of what we have in mind for the ballpark and the community.”

The 90-minute set will launch directly after the completion of the game, which is slated for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Fans are encouraged to join the band near the right-field Miller Lite Beer Oasis for the postgame concert.

The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. The RiverHawks begin their sixth season on May 23 at Windy City. The home opener is at 7:05 p.m. May 25, when the RiverHawks host Windy City. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. All games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM).
