Flyers hand RiverHawks first spring loss

May 14, 2007 - SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Brandon Cohen homered three batters into the game, but the Schaumburg Flyers answered with a five-run first inning and went on to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 17-6, in an interleague exhibition.

The RiverHawks, who had tied three previous exhibition games against teams from the independent Northern League, lost for the first time this spring.

Cohen hit a two-run homer, his second in spring training, with one out in the top of the first inning. The Flyers rallied against Rockford starter Garrett Bauer in their half with a two-run single from Eric Riggs and a two-run double from Christian Snavely.

Snavely was 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBI. Billy Malone also homered for the Flyers.

Justus Kimbrough hit a home run and Brad Doering added two hits for the RiverHawks, who were outhit, 23-8.

Dan Grybagh gave up three runs over four innings to win.

The RiverHawks play fellow Frontier League member Windy City three times this week as Rockford completes its exhibition schedule. The teams play a 3 p.m. doubleheader Thursday at RiverHawks Stadium.
