May 8, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Two more players are coming to camp with the Rockford RiverHawks.

The team announced today that it had selected rookie pitchers Chad Catalano and Lincoln Smith in the Frontier League’s annual tryout camp and draft, held at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington, Pa. The RiverHawks picked Catalano in the second round and Smith in the third. They had traded their first-round pick to Washington more than a year ago.

Catalano, 23, is a right-hander out of Southeast Louisiana State University. He was 1-1 with a save and a 7.20 ERA in 13 appearances for the Lions last year. He also pitched junior-college ball at Pearl Liberty Community College and at Meridian CC. Following his freshman year, San Diego picked him in the 32nd round of the major-league draft, but he did not sign.

Smith, 23, is a right-hander out of Campbell University. Smith, a former teammate of RiverHawks infielder Joe Anthonsen, did not pitch last year. In 2005, he was 3-7 with a 10.04 ERA in 18 appearances.

“He was Campbell’s no. 1 (starter), had some arm trouble,” manager J.D. Arndt said.

The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. The RiverHawks begin their sixth season on May 23 at Windy City. The home opener is at 7:05 p.m. May 25, when the RiverHawks host Windy City. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. All games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM).
