May 7, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – This year’s Riverside Community Bank Rocko’s Kids Club kickoff party promises to be the most exciting in Rockford RiverHawks history.
Rocko, the team’s mascot, has spent the winter undergoing a complete makeover. Kids and parents will get to see the world premier of Rocko’s total transformation, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Riverside Community Bank, 1515 W. Lane Rd. in Machesney Park.
“Between the molting and the botox, some people may be surprised by my new appearance,” said Rocko, who rarely grants interviews. “I may be a little more silver than I was last year, but I feel as good as I look.”
Rocko’s redesign includes a change in color scheme from yellow to metallic silver in his beak and feet, lightning streaks at his temples and a darker blue complexion than in his previous incarnations.
Parents who open a savings account for their kids, 14 and under, Saturday will have their investment matched, up to $10, by Riverside Community Bank. In addition, fans who purchase a 10-game mini-season plan will receive a free Kids Club membership.
On Saturday, kids will be treated to DQ Grill n’ Chill ice-cream cake, the speed-pitch game and door prizes.
“This is a perfect chance to get your kids involved in a constructive summer activity for a low cost in a safe environment,” RiverHawks sales director Dan Macdonald said. “The RiverHawks are excited to continue our partnership with Riverside Community Bank supporting the Rockford area.”
Kids Club membership is just $20 annually. It includes tickets to each of the 10 biggest promotional nights of the year, a club t-shirt, a membership card, field access for pregame youth clinics and the YMCA dance, $2 tickets for other games, and other perks. Ten-game plans for parents start at just $75.
The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. The RiverHawks begin their sixth season on May 23 at Windy City. The home opener is at 7:05 p.m. May 25, when the RiverHawks host Windy City.
