May 2, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks are holding a roster spot open for one lucky fan.

Today, the team announced its Ken Rock Community Center/Boys and Girls Club of Rockford “Ride the Pine with the Rockford RiverHawks” contest. The winning fan will sign a one-day contract with the RiverHawks to take part in their June 12 game against Traverse City.

“This is not just benefiting two great youth baseball programs, but this is giving the opportunity for one lucky fan to get the ultimate baseball experience and will generate a memory they will never forget,” general manager Josh Olerud said.

Raffle tickets cost $10 and are available at Ken-Rock, 3218 11th St.; Boys and Girls Club facilities; Generations Credit Union, 5618 Harrison Ave.; and other area locations. In addition, raffle tickets will be sold at Road Ranger Stadium during the games prior to June 5, the night the winning entry will be drawn.

The winner will participate in a press conference announcing the signing, just like a typical player. The experience will be all-inclusive. The winner will receive a full game uniform and dress in the clubhouse with the team, participate in pregame workouts, including batting practice, throw out the ceremonial first pitch and sit on the bench with the RiverHawks during the game. Following the game, the winner will officially retire from professional baseball.

As a memory of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the winning fan will have his picture taken with the team and will be inserted into the team’s annual baseball card set.

“We’re raffling off a dream,” said John Guth, executive director of Ken-Rock. “It’s an opportunity for them to live their dream for one day.”

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

Prizes will be given to each of the first 50 raffle tickets drawn. In addition, all entrants may redeem their raffle ticket stub for free admission to the RiverHawks’ June 11 game. That night, Ken-Rock Softball will hold a skills competition before the game.

The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. The RiverHawks begin their sixth season on May 23 at Windy City. The home opener is at 7:05 p.m. May 25, when the RiverHawks host Windy City.
