RiverHawks promote Halpin to head trainer

May 2, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Jim Halpin is the new head athletic trainer of the Rockford RiverHawks.

The team announced today that it had promoted Halpin, who had been assistant to Allen Chase. Chase, the RiverHawks’ trainer of the last two seasons, joined the Atlanta organization and will be the trainer for the Braves’ Orlando affiliate.

Halpin, a native of Prophetstown, holds an athletic training degree from Illinois State University. He followed that with an internship at Kennedy Space Center.

His experience in professional sports includes a stint at the Cincinnati Reds’ fall instructional league in Florida following the 2005 season and a position as the head trainer of the Rockford Lightning in the basketball team’s final season, 2005-06.

The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. The RiverHawks begin their sixth season on May 23 at Windy City. The home opener is at 7:05 p.m. May 25, when the RiverHawks host Windy City.
