March 15, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – A former Rockford RiverHawks intern has landed his first full-time job in the industry.

Frank Mentesana is the new lead radio broadcaster for the San Angelo Colts of the independent United League. Mentesana, 23, was the RiverHawks’ broadcasting/media relations intern in 2005.

Mentesana, a native of Brooklyn, is a graduate of Fordham University’s broadcasting school. In San Angelo, he will reunite with Mike Babcock, who was the RiverHawks’ general manager during Mentesana’s internship and holds the same position with the Colts.

“I’m delighted to work with Mike again and I’m just glad to be back in baseball after a summer off,” Mentesana said. “Without the experience I had in Rockfrord, I would not have come close to getting this job, so I’m definitely gkad to have interned. … I hope one day I can say that my journey in baseball began on Rockford and was the first step of many in my baseball career.”

The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. The RiverHawks begin their sixth season on May 23 at Windy City. The home opener is at 7:05 p.m. May 25, when the RiverHawks host Windy City. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. All games are broadcast live on WNTA (1330 AM).
