March 12, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks will be taking on some interleague opponents in spring training.

The RiverHawks announced their spring-training schedule today, and four games against Northern League opponents are among the seven exhibitions scheduled. The Frontier League team will take on Northern opponents, Joliet, Gary and Schaumburg, all of whom are located in the greater Chicago area.

“Playing other competition, that’s when your blood really starts to flow,” RiverHawks owner and director of baseball operations Dave Ciarrachi said. “We’ve got seven games, hopefully that will give us a good chance to evaluate.”

The exhibition schedule starts with a 1 p.m. game against the Joliet Jackhammers on May 10 at RiverHawks Stadium. The RiverHawks then visit each of the three Northern teams. At 1 p.m. May 12, they’re at Joliet. On May 14, they visit both Gary and Schaumburg. They play the RailCats at 11:30 a.m. and the Flyers 5 p.m. The Gary roster includes Jason Shelley, a former RiverHawk who was a recent guest at FanFest.

The spring-training schedule wraps up with three games against Windy City. The RiverHawks host a 1 p.m. doubleheader on May 17 at RiverHawks Stadium. The teams play a single game the following night at Windy City.

The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007.
