« Back

February 7, 2007 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Fans might mistake Cousin’s Bar & Grill for the Wrigley Field clubhouse this weekend.

The Rockford RiverHawks announced today that four-time batting champion Bill Madlock will appear at this weekend’s FanFest 2007, giving the RiverHawks three former Cubs All-Stars at the event. FanFest 2007 is scheduled for 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, at Cousin’s, 510 S. Perryville. Tickets are just $6 and can be purchased at the RiverHawks box office, by phone, or at Cousin’s.

Madlock will join Lee Smith, the former all-time saves leader, and Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins. Players with Rockford ties who have committed to the event include: former RiverHawk Jason Shelley, who set Frontier League strikeout and ERA records and was named Baseball America’s 2003 Independent League Player of the Year; current RiverHawks Jason James and Bobby Mack; former Rockford Peaches Aldine Thomas, Barb Thompson and Doris Johnson.

Fans who purchase a full-season ticket package will have special VIP status at Fan Fest. Not only will they receive a free ticket to Fan Fest for every season ticket purchased, but they will have exclusive access to Smith and the other guests for the first 30 minutes. In addition, they can bring up to two items to be autographed by each celebrity. Other fans can enter the autograph line at 11:30 a.m. and are limited to one autograph per celebrity.

In addition, fans who purchase a 10-game miniseason plan prior to FanFest will receive a free ticket for the event.

Madlock hit .305 in a 15-year career spent with Texas, Chicago, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and Detroit. He won batting titles in 1975 and 1976 with the Cubs, and in 1981 and 1983 with the Pirates. Madlock shared Most Valuable Player honors at the 1975 All-Star Game with the Mets’ Jon Matlack and also appeared in the 1981 and 1983 midsummer classics.

The RiverHawks are the Western Division champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 15th season in 2007. Advertising, season-ticket and suite information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
