RiverHawks rally, beat ‘Bolts, 7-3

August 11, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks rallied for four runs in the seventh inning and beat the Windy City ThunderBolts, 7-3, in front of a sellout crowd on Friday at RiverHawks Stadium.

Jason James singled off reliever Jason McMillan to drive in the go-ahead runs, in front of 3,699. James was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Windy City starter Nick Renault prompted the rally with a one-out walk of Nick Johnson. Johnson stole second base and scored on Joe Anthonsen’s double to the right-field corner. Renault left after issuing an intentional walk. Renault (2-2) struck out eight and walked a season-high six.

James broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run single to right. He scored on Gooby Gerlits’ double.

Rockford reliever Adam Kroft retired all five batters he faced, four on strikeouts, for the win. Kroft (5-2) snuffed out a scoring threat in the seventh and struck out the side in the eighth.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Nordic Water and WIFR – Channel 23 sponsor RiverHawks Baseball Card Night.
