August 6, 2006 - CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Rockford RiverHawks reliever Dave Dowling threw just one pitch on Sunday. It was enough to secure a victory for the Chillicothe Paints.

Dowling entered with runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning. His wild pitch escaped catcher Gooby Gerlits and allowed Justin Drabek to score. The play was close and manager J.D. Arndt as well as pitching coach Derek Roper came out to argue, but the umpiring crew was already heading off the field.

John Smith (0-1) put the runners on base; he worked 2 2/3 innings of relief, giving up just that one run.

Chillicothe starter Ben Lovell had to leave the game after facing just three hitters and allowing an unearned run. But the Paints' bullpen was up to the task. John Martinez gave up just one run in 6 2/3 innings of relief, that on a Matt Sauls home run.

Nick Cavanaugh (2-1) worked three scoreless innings to get the victory.

The RiverHawks have not beaten the Paints this year; they are 0-5 against them with one game to go in the season series. That will be on Monday at 6:05 CDT.

The RiverHawks will return home on Tuesday, August 8, beginning a six-game homestand where they will take on Washington and Windy City. Tuesday will see the last Saturn of Rockford and Q98.5 Youth Clinic at RiverHawks Stadium this year, as well as the last Speed Dating Night, presented by Al Grace Appliance and B. Sanfield. It's also Loves Park Community Night. In addition, Clodius Jewelers sponsors the Diamond Dig, where a diamond will be hidden on the field with ladies in attendance having a chance to find it.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league in its 14th season.
