August 2, 2006 - FLORENCE, Ky. – The Rockford RiverHawks swung early, often and hard against the Florence Freedom on Wednesday night. Four home runs helped the 'Hawks to their 7-4 win.

Matt Sauls homered twice, and Richard Quihuis-Bell and Nick Johnson also went deep. Sauls' and Quihuis-Bell's home runs were on the first pitch of their at-bats, while Johnson's was on the second. All were solo shots.

Rockford also scored on an RBI groundout from Rico Santana, and twice on an error. It was more than enough run support for starting pitcher Garrett Bauer (4-3), who won for the first time in a month. He pitched seven innings, giving up only one run on three hits.

The RiverHawks had only scored nine runs while Bauer was in the game during his previous five starts -- all no-decisions. They got six runs for him during his seven innings of work this time around.

Rockford did most of their damage against Florence starter B.J. Church (2-4) who surrendered five runs on five hits in just over three innings pitched.

Dave Dowling got his second save by pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Rookie Bobby Darling made his first appearance for Rockford since being signed out of Tusculum College in Tennessee. He gave up three runs, including a home run to Kyle Geswein, in one inning of work.

Sauls is the first RiverHawk to go deep twice in a game since May of last season.

The RiverHawks play game two of the three-game series in Florence with the start coming at 6:05 CDT. They are at the beginning of a six-game road trip.
