Rascals again rally in ninth, beat RiverHawks, 3-2

July 27, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Mike Madrid did it to the Rockford RiverHawks again.

The veteran River City Rascal singled home the go-ahead runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the RiverHawks, 3-1, on Thursday at RiverHawks Stadium.

The Rascals broke a 1-1 tie with Madrid’s hit off reliever Dave Dowling (4-3). On Wednesday, Madrid scored the winning run as River City rallied from a six-run deficit with an 11-run ninth inning and beat Rockford, 13-8.

Madrid is 37-for-109 (.339) with eight home runs and 31 RBI against Rockford in his three years with River City.

The RiverHawks scored in the first inning on Jason James' double and Joe Anthonsen’s RBI single. River City starter Steve Brook shut them down after that. Brook (4-3) struck out a season-high 10, did not walk a batter and scattered seven hits over eight innings. Pat Evers pitched a perfect ninth for his 11th save.

The RiverHawks need to win to avoid a series sweep. The finale is at 7:05 p.m. Friday. FatWallet.com and Y95 sponsor postgame fireworks. Captain Morgan sponsors Pirate Night, where fans are encouraged to dress like a pirate.
