Longest homestand continues with mug, glass, backpack giveaways, fireworks

July 24, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks’ longest homestand of the season continues tonight with a charity exhibition, beginning a stretch that includes three great giveaway nights, postgame fireworks and more.

The RiverHawks’ nine-game homestand continues with 7:05 p.m. games each night the rest of this week, a 6:05 p.m. game on Sunday and a 7:05 p.m. contest on Monday, July 31. Kalamazoo, River City and Evansville visit RiverHawks Stadium.

Tonight, the action begins at 4 p.m., when the 5th Tuite and Associates Doctors/Lawyers Hardball Challenge pits teams of Rockford-area professional against each other. The series began in 1887 and has been played yearly since 2003. The series is tied at 2-2; the Lawyers made habeus corpses of the Doctors last year, 16-4. A charity chosen by the winners will benefit. In addition, it’s $3 Margarita Monday, sponsored by 97 ZOK.

On Tuesday, kids 12 and under are invited for a pregame youth clinic at 5 p.m., sponsored by Saturn of Rockford and Q98.5. The Lions Club sponsors RiverHawks Mug Night. Al Grace Appliance and B Sanfield sponsor RiverHawks Speed Dating.

On Wednesday, Clocktower Inn and WIFR-23 sponsor RiverHawks Commemorative Glass Night. The first 1,000 through the gate get a great 12-ounce glass.

On Thirsty Thursday, Miller Lite and 104.9 – the X sponsor Dollar Beer Night. Rockford Speedway sponsors NASCAR Night, which features appearances by classic raceers, including this 1939 Ford from the first NASCAR race at Daytona.

The FatWallet.com Friday Night Fireworks series, also sponsored by Y95, continues this weekend.

On Saturday, University of Wisconsin – Platteville and 96.7 – the Eagle sponsor RiverHawks Backpack Night.

On Sunday, the Rockford Register Star and the Great Lakes Baseball Academy sponsor Family Day. A family can buy four tickets, four hot dogs, and four soft drinks for $40. Kids run the bases after the game.

The homestand concludes with another 97 ZOK Margarita Monday.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league in its 14th season in 2006.
